Why exercise is simply part of life — and why it's better to do it together
Somewhere along the way, we’ve come to think that exercising is something you have to earn, or something you have to make up for. A punishment for yesterday’s dessert, a project with a deadline, a means to look different in six weeks. But anyone who views exercise this way misses what it’s really about. Because exercise is neither an achievement nor penance. It is simply part of a life that feels good — just as natural as eating, sleeping, and doing nothing every now and then.
What the mirror doesn't tell you
In een wereld die draait om hoe we eruitzien, is de spiegel uitgegroeid tot de scheidsrechter van of we het goed doen. Slank genoeg, strak genoeg, “in vorm”.
Those are the things that truly matter. And they are precisely the things you don't see in a mirror, but do feel in your life. Whoever trains only for their reflection loses their motivation as soon as that image doesn't change fast enough. Whoever trains for their life has a reason to continue, every single day.
Exercise is not a hobby, it is a basic need.
We often call sports a hobby, as if it belongs in the same category as stamp collecting or Sunday painting — fun if you have the time, but otherwise optional. Yet that is not true. Your body is made to move. Literally every system in your body, from your heart to your brain, works better when you stay active. Exercise reduces stress, improves your sleep, keeps your joints supple, and your mind sharp.
In other words: exercise is not an extra on top of a healthy life. It *is* a healthy life. It is just as much a part of it as healthy eating and sufficient rest. And as soon as you start seeing it that way, the pressure drops. You no longer have to perform or prove yourself. You only have to do what your body needs anyway.
Moving was once the most natural thing in the world.
In that sense, a sports club is not a fad, but a way to bring back something that was once taken for granted. It is the place where you make exercise a regular part of your week again, without it feeling like an obligation. Not because you have to, but because it simply belongs there again.
You are not doing it alone
And here comes the part that is perhaps the most important, and that is so often overlooked. Exercise becomes easier, more fun, and more lasting when you do it together. The difference between completing an exercise video alone at home and walking into a club where people know you by name is enormous.
When you join a sports club, you aren't just joining a training schedule. You become part of something bigger. There are people who miss you if you miss a session. There is a shared sense of progress, a chat afterwards, a pat on the back when you’ve mastered a new exercise. That sense of belonging is no accidental byproduct of exercising — for a great many people, it is the reason they keep exercising.

A club is not a place where you train, it is a place where you come home.
At MINT Personal Training, we therefore believe that atmosphere is at least as important as the training schedule. A pleasant, safe place where you can be yourself, where no one looks in the mirror to judge, and where everyone is welcome — beginner or advanced, young or a bit older. Not an anonymous gym full of machines, but an environment where you are seen.
Because ultimately, that is what makes a club special. Not the weights, not the machines, but the people. The habit of coming back weekly, the sense of belonging, celebrating small victories together. That is what changes exercising from something you have to do into something you look forward to.
Don't start in front of the mirror, start for yourself — and do it together.
So if you are hesitant about starting to move again, just leave the mirror alone for a moment. You don't have to start looking different to begin with. You just need to acknowledge that your body, and your mind, need movement — and that it feels a lot lighter when you don't do it alone.
Movement is part of life. And at a club, you naturally belong. Make an appointment at MINT Personal Training and discover what it feels like to train not in front of the mirror, but for yourself — among people who will support you.
