While you are in the womb, your brain will be largely formed and structured. Your brain consists of billions of neurons, all of which are connected to everyone in their own way. These connections are made based on events in your life, which determines how we interpret daily events and also how we react to them.
Thinking from habits
If an event repeats itself, the connection between brain cells related to that specific event will be strengthened. If you repeat that event even more often, that connection will become even stronger, which you can view as an increasingly deep path from which you eventually cannot deviate so easily. You will first have to climb a very high wall before you can take a different path again. It feels familiar, you no longer have to think about it, and you just do it; it all happens automatically. This is what we call a habit.
Good and bad habits for weight loss
If your habits make you feel good and move you closer to what you have in mind, then it is desired behavior and you should happily continue doing what you have always done. It is possible that your behavior is pulling you into a negative cycle and ultimately taking you further away from your goal; in that case, it is undesirable behavior and perhaps it is time to do something about it and replace it with different behavior. Everyone has had a goal at some point in their life that they really wanted to achieve, but somehow something always seemed to stand in the way. Think of wanting to lose weight, but the number on the scale only went up. Or creating more balance in your life, but every time you throw yourself back into one thing. Your brain has adapted and reacts from its current state of being.
Our brain is teachable
Fortunately, our brain is malleable and the connections between brain cells are dynamic, which means that a person can actually change. However, you must keep in mind that there is no quick fix and that change is a lifelong learning process that you must embrace with open arms to become the best version of yourself. Being able to make choices that are good for you and being able to change them gives freedom. Isn't that what every human being wants? Every first step to changing yourself is becoming aware of the habits and patterns you have been following your whole life that stand in the way of achieving your goal.
